If you’re looking for a realistic, doable 3 days in Marrakech itinerary for first time visitors, this is exactly how my husband and I spent our time in the city. We visited in May, which meant warm afternoons and cool, refreshing evenings. Marrakech can feel chaotic at first, but with the right plan, it becomes one of the most unique cities you can explore.
This 3 days in Marrakech itinerary balances iconic palaces, chill time at the riad, rooftop meals, and enough wandering to make it feel like an adventure instead of a checklist. We like to travel hard but smart since we both work full time, so every day had a plan without feeling rushed. Day 1:
Bab Agnou
We started our 3 days in Marrakech at Bab Agnou early in the morning before the city fully woke up. The 12th-century gate once marked the ceremonial entrance to the Kasbah, and standing there while it was still quiet felt like the right way to begin. Those that know me know I love a good early morning adventure to start the day and avoid crowds!
Koutoubia Mosque
Next up on our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary was the exterior of Koutoubia Mosque. Non-Muslims cannot enter the interior, but the gardens and surrounding paths are definitely worth the stop. We walked the perimeter slowly, finding a few angles framed by palm trees. It is peaceful in the morning and a nice contrast to what the day becomes later (pure chaos).
Breakfast at the Riad
After wandering, we headed back to our riad (Riad Melhoun & Spa) for breakfast in the courtyard. Fresh bread, fruit, and Moroccan pastries always taste better when you’ve already walked a few thousand steps. I can honestly still taste that fresh squeezed orange juice!
Ben Youssef Madrasa
Ben Youssef Madrasa was one of the highlights of our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. It is a former Islamic college dating back to the 14th century, and the craftsmanship is unreal. The carved wood, intricate tilework, and central reflecting pool pull are all stunners. It is ticketed and opens at 9, so we arrived just before opening.
Being early made a huge difference, and we had time to photograph the courtyard before it filled up. By the time we left (around 10am), it was already incredibly busy. If we had showed up then, I don’t think I would have enjoyed the experience given the crowds. You should absolutely prioritize going early!

There are so many good perspectives here. We shot from above looking down into the courtyard, toward the benches along the sides, and through carved doorways. If you build your 3 days in Marrakech itinerary around smart timing, this stop can feel less crowded than most tourists experience.
Marrakech Museum
Right next door (literally a one minute walk away) is the Marrakech Museum, which makes it an easy addition to your 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. The interior architecture is the main draw, especially the central hall and tilework on the fountains. We didn’t stay long, but it was worth a quick visit. However, if you’re short on time, this is a stop you can skip.
Lunch
For lunch on day 1 of our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary, you have solid options. Cafe des Epices, Nomad, Atay Cafe, and Le Jardin are all reliable picks with good views and solid menus. We went with Atay Cafe and I opted for the couscous, which was quite good. Midday is hot in May, so shaded seating helps.
Souk Exploration
No Marrakech itinerary is complete without getting mildly lost in the souks. We spent the afternoon wandering without a strict plan, which worked surprisingly well. The key is to embrace the maze and not panic when Google Maps gives up on you. It definitely will not function 100% as you make your way through the tiniest alleys imaginable. One pro travel recommendation? Purchase an eSim in advance so that you still have service while you adventure!
Recommended Tour: Souks Shopping Tours
La Menara Lamp Shop was one of our favorite stops in the souk. I mean, how can you not love all of these beautiful lamps?
Herboristerie Avicenne is a spice shop that looks almost too perfectly arranged. The jars, teas, and spices are beautifully displayed, and it smells incredible. I picked up Moroccan mint-lemon tea that I still make at home.
Afternoon at the Riad
We built downtime into our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary in the afternoon. The rooftop pool at our riad, Riad Melhoun & Spa, was perfect for soaking up some sun without being in the middle of the medina chaos.
Later, we moved to the shaded courtyard pool to cool off and relax. There were some cool spots to hang out, read, and play games. Slowing down mid-afternoon kept us energized for the evening.
Dinner at DarDar Rooftop
Dinner at DarDar was one of the best views on our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. Make a reservation specifically for the rooftop well in advance and time it a bit before sunset. Watching the city change colors while hearing the call to prayer was unforgettable. The food and drinks were top notch too!
Day 2:
Jardin Majorelle
Jardin Majorelle (Majorelle Garden) deserves a prime spot in any 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. Created by Jacques Majorelle and later owned by Yves Saint Laurent, it is known for its bold blue and yellow color palette. We bought the first entry tickets and lined up early, which I would absolutely recommend.
Going early made a big difference. We could explore without heavy crowds, and the colors really pop in the morning light. By the time we left, it was a lot busier, and it would have been impossible to snap pics without people in the background.
Recommended Tour: Majorelle Garden
Le Jardin Secret
Le Jardin Secret offers a slightly different garden experience on your 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. The architecture is intricate, especially the gazebo in the center.
We did not make it there first thing, so we had to work around other visitors, some of whom were having a legit full-on photoshoot. But no worries, stay patient and get creative with your angles. It’s manageable even mid-morning if you stay flexible. However, if you’re going to prioritize just one garden, I would choose Jardin Majorelle over Le Jardin Secret; I absolutely loved the blues and yellows at Jardin Majorelle.
Dar Bellarj
Dar Bellarj is a small, free museum with beautiful architecture and far fewer people. It was calm compared to the bigger attractions. We popped in for a short visit and appreciated the quiet. It’s an easy addition to your 3 days in Marrakech itinerary, but skippable if you’re short on time.
Lunch at Naranj Lebanese
Naranj was one of our favorite lunches during our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. The Lebanese dishes were fresh, flavorful, and a nice break from heavier meals. I appreciate a light vegetarian meal on hot days full of lots of walking.
Semmarine Souk
We spent a couple of hours in Semmarine Souk shopping for keepsakes. We always look for a Christmas ornament when we travel, and yes, we found one here. This is one my my favorite traditions on our trips!
Hammam & Massage at Riad Melhoun & Spa
We booked a couples hammam and massage combo at Riad Melhoun & Spa, and it was easily one of the best decisions of our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. A hammam is a traditional Moroccan steam bath followed by an exfoliating scrub. It is extremely thorough, and if you haven’t been to a hammam before, you may want to read up on what to expect for your first experience.
After the scrub, the massage felt even better. We visited Marrakech at the end of our Morocco trip and were full of aches and pains by this point, so it was wonderful to be able to relax.
Dinner at L’Mida Rooftop
L’Mida was another strong rooftop dinner. Make a reservation in advance and aim for a bit before the sun goes down. The vibe is relaxed, and the views are great. Rooftops are a recurring theme in this 3 days in Marrakech itinerary for good reason.
Jemaa El-Fnaa Square
In the evening, we headed to Jemaa El-Fnaa. The square fills with performers, vendors, and crowds as the sun goes down. It is lively and incredibly chaotic.
Skip eating the food here and focus on the people watching. Watch for snake charmers and pay attention to where you step (there are snakes on the ground). It is fascinating to see, but be aware of your surroundings.
Day 3:
Bahia Palace
Bahia Palace was one of my favorite stops in our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary, and I would absolutely prioritize it again. The scale alone surprised me, with multiple courtyards, gardens, and rooms that just keep unfolding as you wander.
We arrived right when it opened, which I highly recommend for your own 3 days in Marrakech itinerary. Even early, you can tell it will get busy. The main courtyard with its stunning tilework and fountain was a highlight, especially before it filled with tour groups. Grab a shot by the fountain before it gets too packed!
Recommended Tour: Marrakech Half Day City Tour
What I loved most was how different each section felt. Some rooms are richly decorated with painted ceilings, while others are more minimal and open to the sky. We found a few quieter corners toward the back in the garden where we could pause for a minute and snap some beautiful photos.
El Badi Palace
El Badi Palace deserves a solid spot on your 3 days in Marrakech itinerary, especially if you appreciate history. Built in the late 16th century, it was once one of the most lavish palaces in the world! Today, it is more ruins than grand palace, but I absolutely loved exploring the maze-like section.
If you can, go early in the morning to avoid both crowds and intense midday heat. There is little shade, and the sun reflects off the stone quickly. Even if you visit later like we did (we made it there mid-morning), patience pays off since the grounds are large enough to find quieter corners.
Afternoon Tea at Royal Mansour
Afternoon tea at Royal Mansour was a splurge on our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary, and I have zero regrets. You need to make a reservation in advance, and I would plan it strategically because it is a multi-hour experience, not just a quick snack break. The Moroccan tea service arrives with ceremony, along with delicious pastries and savory bites.
There is something special about afternoon tea in Morocco. The mint tea is poured high above the glass in that signature flourish, and I just loved how special it felt. After a couple of busy sightseeing days, sitting in that peaceful tearoom felt so indulgent.
After tea, we wandered around the hotel grounds to really take advantage of being there. The architecture, courtyards, and pathways are stunning, and it would have been a shame to rush out. We explored slowly and soaked up the atmosphere before heading back to the medina. Adding this to your 3 days in Marrakech itinerary gives you a completely different perspective on the city, and it is one of those experiences we still talk about.
Relax at the Riad
We intentionally left time to relax at the riad before our last night. A dip in the rooftop pool felt like the perfect end to the afternoon. Plus, since the riad was beautiful, we wanted to actually enjoy it, not just sleep there.
Last Souk Exploration
If there are still souks on your list, swing by before dinner. We did one final wander and picked up a couple last-minute items, which felt like a proper sendoff to our 3 days in Marrakech itinerary.
Dinner at Pepe Nero
Pepe Nero ended up being our favorite meal in Marrakech. Make a reservation in advance because it fills up. If it had not been our last night, we would have gone back again. It was that good!
