As far as getting around Muscat, you can rent a car, take half-day or full-day tours with drivers, or set up a multi-day tour that takes you around all of Oman. We chose to rent a car for our Oman road trip, and the roads were pretty easy to navigate. If you do recommend a car, make sure you get an eSim in advance so that you can use Google Maps; we used Airalo, which worked great. If you’re not up for driving in a foreign country, it seemed like private and group tours were quite common and easy to book.
1. Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
This was hands down one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever visited. The tile work, the archways, the chandelier—it’s all so photogenic that I had to remind myself to just pause and appreciate it without a lens between me and the view. Inside the prayer hall, the scale alone is jaw-dropping, and the massive handwoven carpet and chandelier are impossible to forget.
We spent about an hour and a half exploring, and it honestly flew by. There are so many little details to capture—from geometric tiles to the stunning marble floors—that it’s easy to get caught up just wandering. This is also one of the more serene Muscat Instagram spots, especially early in the morning before the crowds show up. Don’t skip the walk around the outer courtyard—it’s just as stunning as the inside.
When to Visit: Go right at 8:00 AM when it opens to non-Muslim visitors (Saturday-Thursday). The light is softer and the crowds are manageable. It gets busy very quickly!

2. Kempinski Hotel Lobby
The lobby here is begging for its close-up—especially with that dramatic lighting during golden hour. If you’re staying here, congrats, you’ve got 24/7 access to one of the most underrated Muscat Instagram spots. If not, pop in for dinner and grab a few shots on your way in.
When to Visit: Sunrise for dreamy lighting through the windows (though if you wait too long, your photos will be backlit). After dark for up-lighting on those stunning white columns. The lobby is usually pretty busy with guests during the middle of the day and evening, so plan accordingly.

3. Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House is sleek, polished, and totally photogenic. I loved getting shots of the shiny courtyard and also through the pretty archways. It’s not huge, so this is a pretty quick stop, but one of the more elegant photo spots in Muscat, Oman. Check our opera house tours and upcoming performances that may coincide with your visit.
When to Visit: Midmorning is great for direct sunlight and still had minimal people.

4. Qurum Beach Walk
This one’s more casual but still totally worth it. You get palm trees, beach views, and a nice wide path to snap photos as you stroll. It’s also a good way to walk off all of those delicious Omani deserts.
When to Visit: Daytime to enjoy the sunlight reflecting off the blue water.
Google Maps Location: Here for the views. We parked in this parking lot for our visit.
5. Al Bustan Palace Atrium
This is one of the prettiest hotel interiors I’ve ever seen. The atrium is soaring and elegant, with intricate Omani design touches everywhere you look. Even if you’re not staying here, you can stop in for afternoon tea and enjoy the space like a proper guest. Make sure to make a reservation in advance!
Afternoon tea here was a full-on experience. The tea tower came stacked with finger sandwiches, pastries, and scones (yes, clotted cream included). We spent a couple hours sipping tea and pretending we were far fancier than we are, which made it even more fun. Add this to your list of Muscat Instagram spots for both the vibe and the delicious food.
When to Visit: Afternoon for tea, served 2pm-5pm

6. Muscat Yiti Viewpoint
This spot gives you sweeping views of the city, and it’s super easy to access. It’s quick, quiet, and gives you that classic Muscat city shot. The drive there is scenic too, so the photo ops start before you even arrive!
When to Visit: We stopped by midday when the sun was high for maximum sunlight in our pics.

7. Mutrah Fort
This spot is equal parts historic site and epic views. The stone architecture gives great contrast to the blue sea and city below. It’s a bit of a climb, but totally worth it. Don’t forget to turn around on your way up—the stairway views are just as photogenic as the top.
When to Visit: Go just before sunset so you can catch the golden hour views and stick around for the actual sunset.

8. Al Mouj Beach
The sunrise colors here were unreal. Think soft pinks and oranges reflecting off the water while the city slowly wakes up. I’m not usually a morning person (except when I travel and chase sunrises), but even I agreed it was worth the early alarm. There’s also a peaceful stillness at that hour that makes your photos feel even more serene.
When to Visit: Sunrise. Trust me!

9. Daymaniyat Islands
This is more of a natural beauty than an architecture shot, but it still totally belongs on your list of Muscat Instagram spots. The water is ridiculously clear, and we even swam with turtles while snorkeling. You’ll want a GoPro or waterproof case for your phone if you’re planning on getting those underwater shots.
We did a half-day tour and it was the right call. We got a snorkel stop, beach time, and the chance to relax without feeling rushed. It’s peaceful, remote, and one of the top photo spots in Muscat, Oman if you’re into wide ocean views and wildlife moments.
When to Visit: Morning for calm water and better visibility.

10. Mutrah Corniche Viewpoint
Right below Mutrah Fort, the Corniche gives you a beautiful stretch of waterfront walkway lined with mountains on one side and the harbor on the other. We were there around sunset and the golden light on the water made everything look extra dreamy. It’s also one of the best places for people-watching and soaking in local life. Definitely a vibe shift from the historic sites and perfect for enjoying the city of Muscat.
When to Visit: Sunset for glowing skies and lots of local energy.

11. Bandar al Khairan Viewpoint
Another one for the scenic vibes. The contrast between the jagged cliffs and turquoise water is just unbeatable. It’s a quick stop, but makes for some unique shots with a pop of color!
When to Visit: Late morning to early afternoon when the light really makes the water pop.

12. Kempinski Hotel Pool
This one’s more for the early risers or anyone pretending to be. If you can get out there before sunrise, you’ll catch reflections on the water that make it look completely surreal. The symmetry of the loungers, pool, and ocean backdrop makes for a stunning shot.
When to Visit: Just before sunrise for the reflection of the sky in the pool.
