4 Festive Must-Visit Regensburg Christmas Markets (2025)
If you only have one day to visit Regensburg Christmas Markets, you need a plan that doesn’t involve too much backtracking or struggling from bratwurst overload. We spent a December day there—just me, my husband, my mom, and my sister—as part of a river cruise and I can promise the logistics work if you map it out. We split the day between Adventsmarkt in Katharinespital, the Lucrezia Market, and the Regensburg Christmas Market on Neupfarrplatz, then saved the Romantic Christmas Market at Thurn und Taxis for dusk. Pro tip: always check opening dates and times before you go—these markets have schedules, and nobody wants to show up at a ghost market.
To make the most of your time and soak in all the festive energy, here’s everything you need to know before checking out the must-visit Regensburg Christmas Markets.

Here is your cheat sheet for a list of the top Christmas Markets in Regensburg. I’ve included a map, as well, and you can find all of the details in the post! The red Christmas tree icons signify the Christmas markets, and the green bed icons indicate my hotel recommendations. One quick recommendation: make sure you get an eSim in advance so that you can easily navigate walking around Regensburg. We used Airalo, which was affordable and easy to use.

Overview: Visit Regensburg Christmas Markets
We mapped out the must-visit Regensburg Christmas Markets pretty strategically. We kicked things off at the Lucrezia Market for a slow morning of browsing arts and crafts before heading to the Regensburg Christmas Market on Neupfarrplatz for a hearty lunch and mulled wine. In the afternoon, we crossed the Stone Bridge to check out Adventsmarkt in Katharinespital, then wrapped up the night at the Romantic Christmas Market at Thurn und Taxis, which was hands-down the highlight. It felt like the perfect mix of cozy and festive all in one day.

1. Adventsmarkt in Katharinespital
Dates: November 24 – December 23, 2025
Hours: Monday-Friday 4pm-10pm, Saturday 11am-10pm, Sunday 11am-9pm
Location: Am Brückenfuß
Website: Here
Christmas Market Vibe: Cozy and local with a side of panoramic charm courtesy of the Stone Bridge and cathedral view.
What to Expect: This small market is the perfect warm-up when you visit Regensburg Christmas Markets. It’s tucked just over the Stone Bridge, so you get that classic skyline shot of Regensburg as your backdrop while you shop. There’s a relaxed, community feel here, like you’ve stumbled into the city’s favorite winter hangout. It’s also a convenient stop if you’re exploring on foot from the Old Town.
For a market its size, the food choices punch above their weight. I wasn’t there at mealtime, so I stuck with a bag of gebrannte Nuss (candied nuts), which I fully intended to save for later but somehow disappeared before I crossed back over the bridge. If you do catch it at lunch or dinner, the soup and bratwurst options looked tempting enough to make me regret my “light snack” strategy. And yes, glühwein was in plentiful supply—this is Bavaria after all.
Locals clearly hang here to catch up over food and a few glühweins, and it does feel like one of the more relaxed spots if you’re visiting multiple places. We arrived in the afternoon, and it did get busy—at one point, the crowd bottlenecked between stalls, which turned into a slow shuffle. But even with the bustle, the setting makes it worth your time.

2. Lucrezia Christmas Market
Dates: November 28 – December 23, 2025
Hours: Sunday to Thursday 11 am – 8 pm. Friday and Saturday 11 am – 9 pm
Location: Haidplatz and Kohlenmarkt
Website: Here
Christmas Market Vibe: Artsy, crafty, and way more charming than your average bratwurst row.
What to Expect: There are two connected spots—Haidplatz and Kohlenmarkt—and both are just a couple-minute walk apart. Out of all the places to visit Regensburg Christmas Markets, this one wins for handmade gifts; I found beeswax candles shaped like animals and votives with intricate patterns, plus ceramics, jewelry, and even paper art.
Food here was more of a supporting act, but there was always glühwein (which should always count as a food group in December) and a few other options to keep you going. We hit this one right when it opened in the morning, which was smart; it was quiet and almost peaceful, and the backdrop of Regensburg’s colorful architecture makes it photogenic without even trying.
3. Regensburg Christmas Market on Neupfarrplatz (Regensburger Christkindlmarkt)
Dates: November 24-December 23, 2025
Hours: Sunday to Wednesday 10 am to 8 pm; Thursday to Saturday 10 am to 9 pm
Location: Neupfarrplatz
Website: Here
Christmas Market Vibe: Traditional Bavarian festive fun, right in the city’s heart.
What to Expect: This market is the centerpiece when you visit Regensburg Christmas Markets. Located in Neupfarrplatz and set against the Neupfarrkirche, it has a rich history. It’s considered the city’s oldest market and has been a staple for centuries. You can expect a mix of classic Bavarian charm and lively holiday energy.
Food is where this market really shines. Stalls serve everything from sausages and crepes to chocolates and roasted chestnuts. My personal highlight? Blueberry mulled wine, which I didn’t even know was a thing until this trip, and apple mulled wine, which is basically hot cider with a Bavarian twist. If you can, plan to be here around lunchtime—your stomach will thank you.
Stalls also sell typical festive gear—hats, Christmas décor, nativity scenes, nutcrackers—perfect if you want to bring some Bavarian flair home. My husband and I found some cozy gloves, which we promptly put on for the rest of our Christmas market exploration. The market is mid-size but lively, and deserves its reputation as one of the top places to visit Regensburg Christmas Markets.

4. Romantic Christmas Market at Thurn und Taxis
Dates: November 21- December 23, 2025 (closed November 23)
Hours: Monday-Thursday 3pm-10pm, Friday 3pm-11pm, Saturday 12pm-11pm, Sunday 12pm-10pm
Location: Schloss St. Emmeram, Thurn und Taxis
Website: Here
Christmas Market Vibe: Medieval fairytale, fire-lit comfort, and the occasional alpaca cameo.
What to Expect: I saved the best for last: this is the market where romance meets history, and if I had to recommend just one place to visit Regensburg Christmas Markets, it would be this one. Held inside the courtyard of Thurn und Taxis Palace, it feels like stepping back in time. There’s an entry fee to get in, but the setting alone makes it worth it. Ticket prices vary by age and day, plus there are special discounts. Check out the latest ticket prices here.
You’ll find artisans creating and selling their work right in front of you; there are glassblowers shaping ornaments and woodworkers carving toys. The Arts & Crafts Village is where you’ll want to linger, especially if you’re looking for unique holiday gifts. It’s Christmas shopping and live entertainment in one.
At the market, one of the quirkiest surprises was running into the alpacas. They were a hit with kids (and honestly, me too). It added a playful, unexpected twist to the medieval-style setting. You don’t usually expect to sip glühwein while saying hi to a fluffy alpaca, but I’m not complaining.
The food here is next level. Massive fire pits are set up throughout the market, not just for warmth but for cooking. Salmon smokes on wooden planks and the scent of fresh nuts drifts through the air. Bring an appetite—you’ll want to try a lot of different food here. My recommendation? Come with some friends and grab a bunch of food to split.
Pro tip: I recommend arriving before sunset so you can explore in daylight and watch the market transform as the lights come on. Start with a bag of candied nuts while browsing the artisan stalls, then grab dinner and settle in by one of the fire pits in the courtyard.
After dinner, take a walk beyond the main courtyard. The palace grounds are beautiful at night, with paths lit by string lights and a lake reflecting the glow. There’s even a gazebo in the park, fully decked out in holiday lights, which makes for a quiet, romantic break from the bustle inside. Ending your visit here feels like closing your Christmas market day on a perfect high note.
Where to Stay in Regensburg, Germany
Here are my recommendations on where to stay when celebrating at the must-visit Regensburg Christmas Markets:
- Bohemian Hotel Regensburg for a charming, historic hotel in the heart of Old Town Regensburg.
- Elements Hotel for a boutique hotel stay with modern amenities.
If you’ve got one day in Regensburg, your strategy matters. Visit Regensburg Christmas Markets smartly and you’ll end with a full stomach, frozen fingers, and a camera roll that might outnumber your annual photo output. I loved the local-down-to-earth vibe of Katharinespital, the creative sparkle of Lucrezia, and the traditional kick of Neupfarrplatz—but the real highlight was the Romantic Market at Thurn und Taxis. Just check those opening times, layer up, and go soak it all in.
